M&Ms were his undoing: Hospital Purse Thief Captured

MANCHESTER, NH  – Manchester Police responded to Rite Aid, 122 McGregor Street at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 20 for a shoplifting incident involving a wanted subject. Officer Stephen Irwin spoke with the loss prevention officer who detained a man for allegedly concealing several bags of M & M’s before exiting the store.

The man initially provided a false name and date of birth to Officer Irwin, but he was able to positively identify him as Hector Lito Rodriguez, 23 of Manchester, New Hampshire. Rodriguez was wanted for stealing a purse from Catholic Medical Center on Sunday December 17, 2017.

Detective Justin Mangum worked on the stolen purse case and was able to positively identify and prepare a warrant for Rodriguez within 24 hours of the crime thanks to the many crime tips provided by the public. He was arrested on the warrant and additionally charged with theft by unauthorized taking.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters. He is scheduled to appear in Hillsborough County Superior Court-North on December 21, 2017.
