MANCHESTER, NH – Multiple police units were dispatched around 11 a.m.. to the scene of an apparent shooting on Prescott Street between Wilson and Hall streets. Police said one male victim was being treated for a gunshot wound to his “lower extremities.”

The victim, whose name was not released by police, was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injury. Investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence and will remain on scene to gather facts in an attempt to identify a possible suspect.

Due to police activity in the general area, school administrators at Green Acres Elementary and McLaughlin middle school decided to enact “secure campus” procedures, which means heightened security for anyone moving in or out of the buildings. However, police were not involved in the decision, and it is not a “lock down” situation and will not impact students or dismissal.

“This was just a precautionary measure,” said district spokesperson Andrea Alley.

No other information was immediately confirmed by police. We’ll update you as soon as we have more information.
