CONCORD, NH – A State Police Trooper suffered minor injuries after swerving into a guardrail to avoid a head-on crash with a wrong-way driver on I-93 early Saturday morning.

On October 15, 2016, at approximately 1:30 a.m. State Police Sgt. James Steinmetz of Troop D was traveling northbound on I-93, south of Exit 13, in the City of Concord when he encountered a wrong way driver traveling southbound.

Sgt. Steinmetz swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the vehicle. However, Sgt. Steinmetz crashed into the guardrails off of the break-down lane causing damage to the State Police Cruiser. The wrong-way vehicle, a 2014 Black Cadillac, pulled to the far right side off of the passing lane and stopped.  The operator, Gregory Dumais, 28, of Hillsboro, was the  only occupant in the Cadillac.

Dumais was taken into custody and charged with DWI and reckless conduct.  He was taken to Merrimack County Jail. He was bailed on $10,000 personal recognizance bail pending an arraignment on October 28, 2016.

SGT. James Steinmetz went to Concord Hospital for minor injuries and was later released.
