MANCHESTER, NH —  In an ongoing effort to support workforce development, Eversource recently welcomed a new class of students selected to participate in the company’s Electrical Lineworker Certificate Program at Manchester Community College (MCC), a program designed to train the next generation of lineworkers who will help build the electric system of the future. In addition to coursework on campus, the students have been meeting at Eversource’s Legends Drive Facility in Hooksett for training in pole climbing and will complete a paid internship with the energy company.

“I have always enjoyed hands-on work better than working at a desk,” said Lucas Masciarelli, 19, who took welding classes as a student at Pinkerton High School. “I like being outdoors and I’m excited to get out in the field during my internship. There’s a lot to learn and I’m looking forward to the experience of being part of a crew on a bucket truck.”

Offered in partnership with Manchester Community College (MCC), the National Electrical Contractors Association, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Unions 104 and 1837, Eversource’s Electrical Lineworker Certificate Program is powering the possibilities for the region by training the skilled workers needed to advance clean energy initiatives, install advanced technologies on the electric system and develop new electric system construction throughout New England. Students complete extensive course work, including electrical theory, basic math, communications, CPR and safety. Additionally, students learn how to use equipment and tools to safely complete electric overhead and underground construction and complete a paid internship with Eversource.

“Applying concepts I learned in the classroom to hands-on work in the field under the guidance of industry mentors prepared me for a rewarding career in the state where I grew up,” said Lineworker Doug Schack of Hooksett, who Eversource hired upon completing the program in May. “It’s a good feeling to know I’m part of the team serving my community by installing upgrades that will enhance reliability or completing repairs that will restore power to my neighbors.

Students selected for the current class include Keiran Beamer, Mont Vernon; Matthew Beckman, East Berlin, CT; Casey Griffis, Eliot, ME; Andrew Hawes, Candia; Nathan Kierstead, Northfield; Brandon Krueger, Meredith; Alex Lacerte, Nottingham; Lucas Masciarelli, Hooksett; Connor McCormack, Moodus, CT; William Piper, Salem, CT; Dylan Sault, West Chesterfield; and Fletcher Waterman, Concord.
