MANCHESTER, NH – A basement fire at 43 Whitney Ave. early Friday morning was quickly doused by Manchester Fire Department, but has resulted in about $20,000 worth of damage.
Just before 6 a.m. the homeowner called to report spoke coming from the basement. Fire crews from Webster Street Station arrived within five minutes and confirmed heavy smoke conditions throughout the building, and a fire in the basement.
Two hoselines were stretched and the fire was extinguished and placed under control in 20 minutes. The building was searched and ventilated and turned over to the Fire Prevention Bureau for further investigation.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious at his time, and may have been related to a gas dryer, according to District Chief Brendan Burns. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
