MANCHESTER, NH – We met on Monday April 16 in Ward 6 at Ledgewood Clubhouse for our second meeting of the group.

We had 17 members signed up, with an additional three members joining the group Monday night, with 11 members in attendance.

Elections of officer’s were held and all were elected unanimously. Chairman: Glenn RJ Ouellette; Vice-Chair: Zakaria Tber, Secretary: Bianka Beaudoin; Treasurer: Jon Cayton.

Ward 6 Alderman Elizabeth Moreau was our guest speaker.

There are three committee projects in the planning.

  1. We talked about the 172nd City Birthday Celebration and voted once again to schedule this event for Friday June 1, 2018 from 6 to 10 p.m. The needed permits are prepared and will be filed for acceptance to use City Hall Plaza (front and back). By the next meeting we will reveal the temporary agenda for the celebration. We are looking for corporate and business sponsors to cover costs.
  2. We talked about planting some 200 flowering bulbs – a few rose and butterfly bushes around the City Hall property on Elm Street. We voted in favor of completing this project on a Saturday morning in late May. We are also looking for corporate and business sponsors for the cost of this project.
  3. We talked about holding two ticketed concerts in the Park late this summer. We would use Veteran’s Memorial Park or Arm’s Park for those live concerts. We are looking to bring in two bands for each event. We will notify the public once the entertainment has been booked to perform, and when. We are tentatively looking at Saturday August 25 and September 22, 2018. Most likely late afternoon/early evening events. We will be looking for corporate and business sponsors for this project as well.

We will have a presentation on April 30 at our organizational workshop on the “Concerts in the Park” events.

We voted unanimously to file paperwork for a 501c3 tax exempt status. The Chair and Treasurer filled the forms out on Saturday and they will be delivered on Monday April 23  to the Secretary of State’s office.

We had other conversations of discussions on other topics that we will start working on at the next meeting, including downtown crosswalks, and looking at both City Neighborhood maps, one having 24 neighborhoods identified, and the other having 32. We will work closely with the Planning Department on finalizing one map with neighborhoods well defined, and many with historic value to our Queen City’s past and present.

We still need eight members from the following wards to complete our target of two representatives from each ward. We still need two members each from Wards 7 and 8; and one member needed from Wards 4, 9, 10 and 12.

The next meeting date of the Citizens’ Committee on Economic Development is scheduled for Monday April 30 at 6 p.m., location to be announced with the meeting agenda later this week. This will be our first workshop meeting to work on the identified projects, and start work on addressing important issues effecting the city.
