MANCHESTER, NHMainstay Technologies has bestowed Waypoint with a grant of $4,400 to underwrite home study costs for grandparents in New Hampshire who want to adopt their grandchildren.

According to Waypoint president Borja Alvarez de Toledo this gift comes at a critical time, as more children are coming into care due to the opioid crisis, and more grandparents are stepping in to care for their grandchildren.

Often, when grandparents who’ve been raising their grandchildren want to legally adopt them, they are faced with a significant financial hurdle: the cost of the state-required home study.  When they enter unexpectedly into this re-parenting role, they often use up their retirement savings to do so. The expense of adopting becomes a heart-breaking reality as they strive to keep their grandchildren out of the foster care system.

“When we met the team from Waypoint, we were immediately struck by their deep care, wise stewardship, operational excellence, and long-term passion for the children and families of our state,” says Ryan Barton, CEO of Mainstay. “Waypoint has honored our team, educated us about what they do, and given us a way to extend our impact and steward our giving. The entire Mainstay team is excited to be a small part of their mission!”

“I can’t tell you how happy this has made all of us, especially our Adoption program,” says Alvarez de Toledo.  “With innovative companies like Mainstay, and philanthropic partnerships like this, we are truly able to make a long-term impact on children’s lives, and on the health and well-being of our communities.”
