MANCHESTER, NH – Saint Anselm College has announced the first recipient of the life-changing Future of America Scholarship, made possible by the commitment of RiverStone Resources LLC, a longtime corporate partner.

Riverstone’s scholarship is awarded to one promising student from New Hampshire in the amount of $50,000 a year, for four years. The recipient of the $200,000 scholarship is Robert Hughes of Manchester. A senior at Memorial High School in Manchester, Hughes will attend Saint Anselm College in the fall as a member of the Class of 2020.

The Scholarship Committee selecting Hughes identified his Anselmian qualities of dedication to academics and interests in the world outside the classroom. Excelling at Memorial High School, particularly in music and athletics, Hughes plans to study history and participate in politics at Saint Anselm, and aspires to be a lawyer.

RiverStone Resources, of Manchester acquires and manages insurance portfolios in the United States and Europe. It is a long-time corporate partner of Saint Anselm College.

“RiverStone has a sincere interest in participating with, and contributing to, the communities in which we work and live,” said Jim Kelly, Executive Vice President of The RiverStone Group. “We honor guiding principles which embrace the notion of ‘doing well such that we may do good,’ and we have an employee driven community support committee which directs resources to organizations which deliver valuable services to the New Hampshire community in critical areas of education, health, needs based food, shelter and counseling, as well as the arts.

“This particular opportunity was born from the notion of ‘making a difference to an individual’ where we can see, firsthand, the enrichment and development of a talented young individual here in New Hampshire. We could not be more excited about providing the resources for a college education to a deserving and talented young student like Mr. Hughes. We thank Saint Anselm for the partnership in identifying the opportunity to invest in our community’s future.”

“RiverStone has again shown extraordinary generosity for the sake of education,” said Steven R. DiSalvo, Ph.D., president of Saint Anselm College. “We look forward to watching Robert’s growth over the next four years as the initial recipient of the Future of America Scholarship.”

Criteria for continuation of the Future of America Scholarship in the honored student’s college career include: the scholar must be an incoming freshman accepted to Saint Anselm College, a full time residential student from New Hampshire with demonstrated financial need, and must maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher throughout the four years of the student’s college career.
