Clean-up and repairs are underway at Hampshire Hills Athletic Club where the dome roof was damaged by snow load.

At around noon on March 15 the Hampshire Hills Athletic Club reported via Facebook that the roof of the Hampshire Dome “depressurized under the weight of snow and ice.” No injuries were reported, as The Dome was closed at the time of the roof collapse.

“Our team is working hard to facilitate the earliest resumption of activities there. The Dome operation will be closed for now and we will announce the expected reopening date as soon as damage assessments are completed,” according to the club’s Facebook post.

In February state Fire Marshal William Degnan issued a warning to residents and businesses to be aware of snow load on roofs and the potential for collapse. Click here for more information from the state Department of Safety roof collapse division.

The health and wellness center serves Milford and surrounding towns, and offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools and tennis courts at Hampshire Hills as well as sports fields, walking trails, basketball gym, climbing wall, group exercise classes, indoor tracks, yoga, Pilates, the Fitness Center, and Elliot Hospital Physical Therapy Center, among other amenities.

Normal operations at the rest of Hampshire Hills athletic club will continue as usual – including some of the activities which normally take place made under theHampshire Dome.

Contact Hampshire Hills Athletic Club for details on scheduled activities.
