MANCHESTER, NH — On the evening of November 27, 2016, at approximately 7:06 p.m., officers responded to the area of 470 Lake Ave., at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Belmont Street, for the report of a gunshot and what appeared to be an injured person walking away from the area.

Witness statements suggest that a group of individuals fled the area in a vehicle or vehicles, after the sound of the gunshot. Upon arrival, officers found evidence that a weapon had been fired, but no victim.

Ultimately, an officer working a security detail at the Elliot Hospital reported that a gunshot victim had arrived. The victim was identified as Jeffrey Newey, 21, of Manchester. Newey exhibited a single gunshot wound to his right arm. The wound was not life threatening. Newey was treated and released.

During the subsequent investigation, Newey’s assailant was described as a “Spanish” male, 6-feet-tall, with shoulder-length curly hair, wearing a long-sleeved black sweatshirt and tan pants. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. However, there is no current evidence to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety.
