Man allegedly stole from a church lady during Mass

MANCHESTER,  NH — David Hill, 51, of Manchester , is accused of stealing a wallet from a church lady’s purse on Nov. 26, and trying to evade police by hiding under a pile of leaves at a school yard playground.

Police say a 58-year old woman attended church services at Blessed Sacrament Church, 13 South Elm Street, at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The woman placed her purse inside the sacristy while she prepared from Mass, but reentered after she heard someone inside of the room.

She located an unknown man inside the sacristy as he was holding her wallet. She yelled at him as he fled the church. She  and reported the incident to the Manchester Police Department. Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect across the street.

Officer Casey Finn noticed a male subject hiding under a pile of leaves inside of Baskerville School playground. He was identified as Hill.  police say Hill fled the church and ran across the street while discarding the stolen wallet and his sweatshirt in an attempt to evade detection.

The officers located the stolen Liz Claiborne wallet and his sweatshirt near97 Brown Avenue after he was placed into custody. Hill was in possession of the cash believed to have been stolen from her wallet. He was charged with theft by unauthorized taking, falsifying physical evidence, loitering/prowling, and was placed on a 72-hour hold for probation/parole.
