HARRISBURG, Penn. – And the final score from Harrisburg on Mother’s Day: New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Harrisburg Senators 3. Oh wait, never mind. That was the score from the ENTIRE day.
The Fisher Cats instead split their Sunday doubleheader with the Senators, winning up Saturday’s makeup game 6-1, followed by a 2-1 Harrisburg victory in the originally scheduled contest.
In Game 1, Sean Reid-Foley was once again masterful, but he would not get the win, requiring 96 pitches to get out of the fourth.
Instead, the win would go to Jose Fernandez (3-0), for his relief work in the fifth and sixth.
Reid-Foley, Fernandez and Justin Shafer combined to all just five hits over the truncated seven inning contest, with Harrisburg’s only run coming in the first off a Yadiel Hernandez single in the first that brought Daniel Johnson across the plate.
Cavan Biggio’s two-run homer in the first, his third in three games, was enough to win the contest outright, but New Hampshire added four more runs in the seventh, with four of the first Fisher Cat batters recording base hits off reliever Derek Self.
Logan Darnell (2-1) was the loser of record, giving up seven hits and striking out seven in five innings of work while Self allowed four hits and a walk in the other two innings.
At the plate, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Biggio went 2-for-4 while Jonathan Davis led the way with a 3-for-4 appearance.
Max Pentecost also added a triple in the seventh, his second of the year.
Harrisburg’s Jake Lowery provided an early lead in the second game, hitting his third homer of the year in the second inning.
Biggio would get his third RBI of the day in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Davis. However, that’s all the Fisher Cats would get in the inning, stranding two men in scoring position.
Hernandez would break the deadlock with a walk-off single in the seventh, bringing home Khyyan Norfolk to seal the doubleheader split.
Guerrero and Connor Panas were the only Fisher Cats with hits in Game 2, each getting two apiece. Daniel Johnson also recorded two hits for the Senators.
On the mound, both starters submitted exceptional no-decision performances. New Hampshire’s T.J Zeuch allowed six hits and two walks in his six-inning appearance while Brady Dragmire went five innings, striking out seven while allowing three hits and three walks.
The loss would go to Dusty Issacs (2-1) while Roman Mendez (2-1) got the win.
New Hampshire now heads to Hartford for a three-game series against the Yard Goats. Jon Harris (1-3, 6.83 ERA) takes the mound for New Hampshire at 7:05 p.m. against Hartford’s Jack Wynkoop (2-1, 4.45 ERA).
