On Tuesday, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats added to franchise record of postponements in one season, leading to their doubleheader split against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Wednesday evening at NYSEG Stadium.

Binghamton took the first game 2-1, adding not only two extra innings beyond the seven found under normal doubleheader games in Eastern League rules, but a tenth inning as well.

There, Kevin Kaczmarski hit a walk-off line drive single to left off reliever Jose Fernandez, giving the Fisher Cats their fifth extra-innings loss of the year.

David Thompson hit his 15th homer of the year for the Ponies in the second inning while New Hampshire’s run came from Harold Ramirez, brought home on a Tim Lopes single in the fourth.

Despite the lack of runs, the two teams combined for 21 hits, with both squads leaving nearly a dozen men each on base.

New Hampshire starting pitcher Thomas Pannone scattered six of those hits in six innings of work, while Binghamton’s Ricky Knapp gave up 11 hits in an eight-inning performance.

The Fisher Cats bounced back in the second game with a 3-2 victory.

Derrick Loveless and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each contributed sac fly RBIs while Anthony Alford recorded a bases loaded walk in the fifth for New Hampshire’s other run.

Following Alford and Gurriel’s contributions in the fifth, Patrick Biondi also contributed a sacrifice RBI, a grounder to second later in the inning that allowed Gustavo Nunez to score.

However, that would be all for the Ponies, with Shane Dawson stifling Binghamton for another two innings to earn his fourth victory of the year.

Richard Urena collected two of New Hampshire’s five hits in the contest while Matt Oberste and Tyler Moore both collected two hits for Binghamton, amounting to 80 percent of the Ponies total in the game.

The Fisher Cats now return to Manchester for their last home series of the year, a matchup with the Hartford Yard Goats. Sean Reid-Foley (8-11, 5.18 ERA) faces off against Hartford’s Parker French (8-11, 6.37 ERA)
