Winter’s not officially here yet, but the weather’s getting colder and the hockey’s heating up. It’s Nov. 14, here’s your Manchester Monarchs Weekend Review.
Game Recap
Three games in three days are a test for any professional hockey team, but the Monarchs came through with flying colors, beginning the weekend with a win against the Jacksonville Icemen on Friday.
Manchester followed that up with a Saturday win Worcester Railers at the DCU Center, despite being outshot for the first time this season.
The Monarchs returned home on Sunday for another victory against the Railers, evening up the season series between the teams at 2-2.
Three Stars
Three Stars: Kevin Morris – Four goals in three games, including a hat trick? It’s no question who was the most valuable Monarch over the weekend.
His teammates are crediting the hot streak to Morris’ mustache, but Morris believes sticking to a positive routine was a key.
“It’s all about sticking to the process and understanding sometimes they’ll go in, sometimes they won’t, but when they do, you have to take advantage,” he said on Sunday.
Two Stars: Evan Cowley – It’s hard to tell who the Monarchs’ primary netminder is, as both Cowley and Charles Williams have been excellent so far this season. Cowley earned wins in both of the weekend’s home games, accumulating 69 saves in the process.
One Star: Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman – He led the team in shots on goal in both of the home games, finishing with a goal, an assist and a +2 out of the three games from the weekend.
Beyond the Blue Lines
Defenseman Rob Hamilton was transferred to the Springfield Falcons (AHL) on Sunday, following a goal on Friday and an assist on Saturday.

The Monarchs host the Reading Royals on Wednesday (10 a.m.) and the Railers once again on Friday (7 p.m.), followed by a Saturday home game against Adirondack (6 p.m.) and another trip to the DCU Center on Sunday (3 p.m.)
