MANCHESTER, NH – A Patriots pre-game ritual, at least on this football Sunday, meant taking in the Eagles game at Billy’s Sports Bar for Coach Stan Spirou.
Not only is he interested in how fellow NH native Chip Kelly is doing as head coach of the Eagles, but for Spirou, it’s personal this season – his son-in-law, Ryan Day, a former stand-out player for Central High School and UNH, was recruited this year by Kelly to serve as quarterbacks coach.
We caught up with Spirou, his big brother Chris Spirou, and other friends and family members during half-time Oct. 11 at Billy’s to get Coach Spirou’s assessment on how fellow NH coach Kelly is doing with his Eagles so far this season, and how the upcoming season look’s for Spirou’s SNHU Penman basketball team.
When asked if he had any tips for Kelly, Spirou said he had his hands full figuring out how to turn out a winning season with his SNHU Penmen. However, his brother recommended Billy’s steak tips to Coach Kelly, perhaps second only to the “Coach Spirou Hot Wings,” a specialty menu item at Billy’s dedicated to Spirou by bar owner Bill LaBerge – watch the video to find out why.
For the record, the Eagles beat the New Orleans Saints soundly, 39-17.
