The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are leaving Trenton. After the past few days, they can’t leave fast enough.
After Sunday’s 9-0 loss, the Fisher Cats have lost their last 14 straight games against the division leading Trenton Thunder, dropping their season record against the Thunder to 1-16.
Trenton scored two runs in the third, and that would be all they needed on a day when the Fisher Cats mustered only five hits.
Billy Fleming and Jorge Saez later added home runs, and Tito Polo also contributed an RBI single. That RBI was Polo’s 14th RBI in the past nine days, and 11th against Fisher Cat pitching.
Saez and Polo each contributed three hits in the victory.
Brady Koerner (2-0) retired the final ten batters he faced, going 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.
Sean Reid-Foley (5-7) pitched 4 1/3 innings in the loss, giving up five earned runs off seven hits.
Alex Monsalve had two hits for the Fisher Cats, he now has at least one hit in seven of the nine games he’s participated in since demotion from Triple-A Buffalo last month.
The Fisher Cats will head to Trenton again on July 20 for the last series of the year against the Thunder, with their next game coming at home against Portland on Thursday.
In the meantime, Manchester will host the 2017 Eastern League All-Star Classic, with the Eastern League Home Run Derby scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday and the Eastern League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
