It’s Sept. 25, 2017, here are this week’s highlights from Manchester’s high school athletic programs.
Central
With the 2017 Fall Season at its halfway point, the Little Green remain on top of the city’s high school athletic landscape, punctuated by a 7-1 field hockey crosstown victory against Memorial on Sunday.
The boys’ soccer team remains undefeated, four points ahead of Exeter at the top of the Division I table, and as the top ranked New England high school team in most recent USA Today High School Sports Super 25 Ranking.
As perhaps a consolation, Memorial partially marred that completely perfect record, earning a 2-2 tie against the Little Green earlier this week.
The girls’ soccer team isn’t undefeated, but added two wins this week to bring their record this season to 7-1-0, just behind undefeated Exeter.
In football, Central continues to make its case a member of the state elite, eking out a 28-26 victory against Concord on Friday.
The real tests will come at the end of October with a season-ending gauntlet against powerhouses Goffstown, Winnacunnet and defending champion Bedford.
Before that though comes two road trips to the seacoast against Portsmouth and Dover.
Memorial
While one of Manchester’s Division I team shines, the other continues to struggle.
The boys’ soccer team is beginning to bounce back from a rough start to the season, with a draw against Central and a 1-0 victory against Alvirne, but that was the brightest spot in another tough week for the Crusaders.
Friday held a 34-7 football loss to Dover and the field hockey team gave up a combined 12 goals in losses to Pinkerton and Nashua North.
West
The Blue Knights football team continued their struggles with a 41-14 defeat in Milford, cementing their place at the bottom of the Southern Conference of Division II.
However, they have a good chance to change their fortunes on Saturday with a home contest against Pembroke, which is also winless and has registered just one touchdown in their first three games of the year.
Trinity
Only a 3-1 boys’ soccer victory against Milford on Tuesday prevented a winless week for the Pioneers. Two days later, Trinity dropped a 2-0 decision to ConVal
The girls’ soccer team also lost to ConVal, which didn’t have a win this season up until that point.
Derryfield
The boys’ golf team remained undefeated after two rounds over the week, defeating Conant, Stevens and Belmont in the first run and Fall Mountain, Bow and Monadnock in the second showing.
Derryfield now has the last undefeated Division III golf team in the state, with their team season ending next Monday.
The field hockey team and boys’ soccer teams also remained undefeated, with the former recording two wins and a 3-3 draw against Lebanon on Thursday and the latter grabbing wins against Raymond and Prospect Mountain.
