BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – On Monday night, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost their third straight game, falling 4-1 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Kevin Smith brought home the ‘Cats only run on the fourth at-bat of the game, a double that followed up another double from Alberto Mineo on the previous at-bat.
The ‘Ponies negated that lead in the third, adding a pair of doubles of their own in what ultimately became a four-hit, three-run barrage.
New Hampshire starting pitcher Patrick Murphy survived that tough stretch, but another RBI double, this time from Barrett Barnes, cashed him from the game with one out in the fifth.
Murphy (0-2) got the loss, allowing five hits and three walks in addition to all of Binghamton’s runs.
Michael Gibbons (1-0) earned the win, settling down after that poor first inning, allowing just five hits while striking out eight.
Stephen Villines earned his second save of the year for Binghamton with a perfect eighth and ninth.
At the plate, Mineo and Brock Lundquist each grabbed a pair of hits for the Fisher Cats while Kevin Kaczmarski and Sam Haggerty did the same for Binghamton. Patrick Mazeika also contributed a pair of RBI for the ‘Ponies.
Both teams are at it again tomorrow, with Binghamton southpaw Anthony Kay (0-0, 0.00 ERA) taking the mound at 6:35 p.m. against New Hampshire’s Hector Perez (0-1, 15.19 ERA).
