CONCORD, NH – A broad coalition of landowners, loggers, business leaders, municipal leaders and state lawmakers will gather in front of the New Hampshire State House Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. to urge the House and Senate to override Governor Sununu’s vetoes of SB 365 and SB 446.
These two bills won strong bipartisan support from lawmakers earlier this year. The rally will be headlined by political, business and community leaders working to convince members that Sununu made a mistake in rejecting the two bills, which support local energy production, forest management, reduced power costs and local jobs.
“The future of the biomass industry is at stake, as well as nearly a thousand good-paying jobs throughout the state,” says Jasen Stock of the NH Timberland Owners Association, one of the sponsors of the rally. “Lawmakers must understand these vetoes will do nothing to save money for ratepayers in the long run. A veto will shut down a statewide local wood-to-energy program that helps maintain healthy forests locally through SB 365. We also face the loss of renewable energy that cuts costs for taxpayers all around the state through SB 446. We urge lawmakers to override these two vetoes.”
