Liberty Utilities will host an open house about their Granite Bridge project on Tuesday, August 21 from 5- 8 p.m. at the Derryfield Restaurant, 625 Mammoth Road, Manchester.

Manchester has not registered as an “intervenor.” [See the April 24 article, “Manchester waiting to become an intervenor on gas pipeline project.”]

Guests can arrive at their own convenience to speak with team members and learn more about Granite Bridge, ask questions, and provide feedback on the project proposal. The event is science-fair style with tables, displays and handouts set up with company representatives available to answer questions. You can drop in at any time during the open hours.

The 16-inch-wide steel underground pipeline, which Liberty calls Granite Bridge, would be installed in the state right-of-way for Route 101. It would run 27 miles, from Stratham to Manchester, with a large facility in Epping. It would be installed 732 feet (a little over a tenth of a mile) from Manchester’s public water source, Lake Massabesic. As part of the state approval process, the company will need to address risks to the city water supply during construction, the long-term environmental impact, and the cost to ratepayers. (Facility construction costs are included in the rates.)

22 of 24 State Senators, including all three from Manchester, endorse the pipeline. This has drawn criticism by pipeline opponents.
