MANCHESTER, NH – Talk about the luck of the Irish – organizers couldn’t have ordered up more perfect weather for this year’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, which took over Elm Street on March 20.
The event kicked off with the Millennium Running Shamrock Shuffle (click here for full race results) and lots of fans and friends cheering runners along from the sidelines. Liz Alexakos, a first-grade teacher at Wilkins School in Amherst, was part of a group of teachers running in honor of a student named Carter, who bravely battled bone cancer and just had his leg amputated.
There were many great causes represented by marching units, from Hope for NH Recovery and Caring Paws Therapy Dogs, to Shriners Bektash Temple, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and Manchester Police and Fire Departments.
Dignitaries marching in the parade included Gov. Maggie Hassan, Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Mayor Ted Gatsas, several Board of Aldermen and Board of School Committee members. Also spotted in the crowd, former Mayors Sylvio Dupuis and Bob Baines.
