Wrong-way van with 2 kids inside drives at oncoming cars. Once stopped by state police, driver assaults officer

MERRIMACK, NH – On February 21 at approximately 10:10 p.m., the New Hampshire State Police responded to the report of a Mercury Villager Van traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Everett Turnpike in Nashua.  Additionally, it was reported the vehicle was traveling in excess of 90 mph and purposefully driving at other motorists.

The NH State Police Troop B, with the assistance of the Merrimack and Nashua Police Departments were able to locate and stop this vehicle traveling northerly in the southbound lane in the area of Exit 10 in the town of Merrimack.

The male operator of the vehicle, identified as Angel L. Rodriguez, 55, of Nashua, refused to identify himself to police and refused to exit the vehicle. Rodriguez assaulted police officers on scene and resisted arrest. Two small children were inside the vehicle. Ultimately, Rodriguez was placed in police custody and charged with felony reckless conduct; two counts of endangering the welfare of a child; simple assault on a police officer; resisting arrest; and disobeying a police officer. Rodriguez was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail where he was held without bail.

At this time the case remains under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police, Troop B.  The State Police were assisted by the Merrimack Police Department, Nashua Police Department and Merrimack Fire & Rescue.
