WORCESTER, Mass. – The Manchester Monarchs couldn’t bring their winning ways back with them to New England, falling 3-2 to the Worcester Railers on Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Railers opened the scoring at 3:52 of the second period, with a goal from Barry Almeida, a one-timer that found its way past Manchester netminder Chris Driedger.

Manchester tied up the contest just under a minute later thanks to Nic Pierog’s goal, but Worcester answered with two more goals before the intermission, first from Connor Doherty and then a power play goal from Josh Holmstrom.

Matt Marcinew brought the contest back within one goal at 14:53 in the third period, but Manchester could not find the equalizer, with Worcester goaltender Mitch Gillam adding another three saves after Marcinew’s goal to bring his total to 21 on the night.

Now holding last place in the North Division, Manchester faces Worcester again on Friday night before heading to upstate New York for a showdown with the Adirondack Thunder.
