Woman struck by vehicle near Market Basket has died of her injuries

UPDATE: Jan. 9, 2016: Manchester Police issued the following statement on Jan. 9:  The 26-year old pedestrian who was struck Thursday night has succumbed to her injuries and passed last evening.”

MANCHESTER, NH — A woman was seriously injured Thursday night after she was struck by a car on West Auburn Street, police say.

At about 8:46 p.m. police and rescuers responded to a reported accident scene near the entrance of Market Basket on Elm Street at West Auburn. 

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta traveling west on West Auburn Street from Elm Street collided with the woman as she walked on West Auburn.

The driver of the Jetta was not injured, however the woman was transported to the Elliot Hospital with multiple serious bodily injuries, police said. The identity of both the driver and pedestrian are being withheld by police pending completion of the investigation, which remains active and under the direction of the Traffic Unit Collision Reconstruction and Analysis Team.

Manchester Police say the woman remains in the Intensive Care Unit as of 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
