MANCHESTER, NH – A woman was suffered “severe burns,” according to Chief Dan Goonan, after a two-alarm fire at 557 Pine St. Monday night.
The six-family apartment building was fully occupied, but the only injury was to the woman on the third floor, who was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment, Goonan said.
She is in critical condition.

Crews were alerted by an alarm activation. No calls came in for the fire, Goonan said, but as soon as firefighters arrived, they realized there was a working fire. The injured woman was found outside the apartment on an interior landing, and was rescued from the building.
Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers were dispatched to meet with residents and will make sure the four displaced families will have a safe place to sleep, as well as food, clothing and other essentials. Over the next several days, Red Cross client casework volunteers will stay in contact with the families and provide referrals
Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly, Goonan said. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Check back for more information as it becomes available.
