MANCHESTER, NH — Officer Alexander Martens was dispatched to Cumberland Farms, 275 Hanover St. at 3 a.m. on November 9, 2016 for a theft report. The clerk said a woman had walked out of the store with two cans of Twisted Tea.

Officer Martens observed a woman matching the suspect description in the area of Union and Manchester streets. He attempted to stop the woman, but she refused. She was later identified as Kristie Chapman, 43, of Manchester.

Chapman tried to conceal items inside of her coat before running away from the officer.

Officer Martens caught up to her and took hold of her arm. However, Chapman turned toward the officer and threw a full can of Twisted Tea at him, striking him in the face. Officer Martens wrestled Champman to the ground, and she refused to comply with the arrest by tucking her hands underneath her body.

She was finally subdued and handcuffed. However, she remained combative and hostile with the officers on scene. She continued her uncooperative behavior and kicked another officer in the shin before she was placed into the transport wagon.

Chapman was charged with theft by unauthorized taking (it was upgraded to a felony based on the fact she had three prior theft convictions); two counts simple assault; and resisting arrest/detention. She is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on November 23, 2016 in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester.
