MANCHESTER, NH – Tara Carter, 47, of Douglas Street, was arrested Jan. 16 for an alleged stabbing incident. She is accused of stabbing a visitor to her apartment over a bottle of Valium.

Police responded to 211 Douglas St. at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for a reported stabbing. The victim, age 44 , told police he had been stabbed by Carter. He explained that while visiting her he had placed a prescription bottle containing Valium on the kitchen table before leaving the kitchen to use the restroom.

When he came back moments later he noticed his pills were missing, so he asked Carter to return the prescription bottle. The accusation allegedly caused Carter to become violent and combative toward the victim. He said Carter allegedly knocked him to the ground several times before stabbing him on the left side of his chest. The victim told police he attempted to leave the apartment as Carter continued to assault him with her hands. He made his way toward the hallway stairs and she allegedly pushed him, causing him to land at the bottom of the 13-step landing. Police arrived on scene as he was exiting the apartment.

The stab victim was treated at a local hospital for a “superficial” stab wound. Officers attempted to make contact with Carter, who initially refused to open the door. They eventually gained entry into the apartment and placed Carter into custody. She was charged with first-degree assault; reckless conduct and resisting detention/arrest. She was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on January 19, 2016.
