MANCHESTER, NH — More than a month after a severely emaciated pit bull was brought to the Manchester Animal Hospital, the dogs owner has been arrested. On May 15, 2019, Megan Ramos-Heredia, 28, turned herself into Manchester Police. She was charged with cruelty to animals.

The dog, who has since been named Daisy, was only 26.2 pounds when she was brought in for treatment on April 8, 2019. A 2-year-old pit bull should weigh anywhere from 40 to 60 pounds.

The dog was also very dehydrated, anemic, and suffered from skin issues. The women who brought her in said they had found the animal in Livingston Park.

Due to the animal’s extremely poor health, the dog was brought to the Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester and an investigation ensued. Police were able to look at surveillance video of the Animal Hospital parking lot, received multiple tips, and conducted interviews. They were able to determine that Daisy was in fact owned by Ramos-Heredia, one of the women who had brought her to the hospital.

Ramos-Heredia had owned the dog since late December 2018. Ramos-Heredia was charged with Cruelty to Animals for neglecting care for the animal which resulted in an extreme malnourished state. After receiving antibiotics for her skin condition and getting normal feedings, she has rebounded and is at a healthy weight.

Cruelty to animals is a misdemeanor punishable by fines and up to a year in jail.
