HAMPTON, NH – Hampton Police have identified the driver in a DUI accident last week that left a pedestrian injured as Audrey Cox, 52, of Lowell, Mass.,

Cox is a longtime WMUR-TV news correspondent. Police say Cox was behind the wheel when she struck a Hampton woman, 79, with her 2011 Jeep Patriot. She was charged with reckless conduct and driving or operating under the influence, a charged denied by Cox’s attorney.

The accident happened Sept. 25 at about 7 p.m. on Ocean Boulevard.

Cox will be on leave from the Manchester-based statewide TV station pending the outcome of the case, according to Seacoastonline.com. She was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail.

Cox’ attorney released a statement according to WMUR saying: “It was a regrettable accident, and we are confident when all the evidence is reviewed that alcohol did not play a role in this accident.”
