MANCHESTER, NH – Still deciding what to give your Valentine? How about a card that hugs and also feeds a person in need? Portsmouth-based Hugz, makers of cards that hug, are providing a meal for each card they sell to support the numerous food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and after school programs supported by the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire. “There’s nothing more nourishing in life than love, but we all still have to eat,” said Hugz creator Peter Connors. “We are starting here at home, in the Granite State, providing a meal for someone in need for every single Hugz we sell. Valentine’s Day, or any day, any occasion, every single Hugz we sell will fill a belly in need of nourishment. It is our promise to help make the world a better place, one hug at a time.”

“Love lifts spirits, but only the nourishment of a meal can fuel our food insecure neighbors at home, at school and at work,” said New Hampshire Food Bank Executive Director Eileen Liponis. “In New Hampshire more than 10-percent of all residents, including more than 13-percent of children, are food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal is coming from. We are grateful to Hugz for this special initiative in support of our efforts to eliminate hunger in New Hampshire.”

The New Hampshire Food Bank, which receives no state or federal funding for food distribution, delivers nutritious food to more than 425 partner agencies statewide, including food pantries, soup kitchens, afterschool programs, senior centers and other nonprofit feeding programs. During 2017, the New Hampshire Food Bank distributed 13.7 million pounds of food to its partners statewide. This year, due to the growing demand, the New Hampshire Food Bank expects to distribute more than 14 million pounds of food.
