MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester VA Medical Center has been awarded a grant to support treatment and rehabilitation of Veterans who are experiencing chronic pain in New Hampshire.

“After serving our country, Veterans deserve to return home and to the greatest extent possible enjoy a pain-free, and high-quality life,” said Danielle Ocker, Medical Center Director.  “At Manchester VAMC, our concentrated efforts have been to create a comprehensive, safe, evidence-based system of pain care that improves the function and quality of life for all Veterans with chronic pain.”

In the midst of the national opioid crisis, it is essential to constantly evaluate our services and offer Veterans the widest possible array of evidenced-based approaches to address their pain.  Over the past two years, the medical center has expanded to offer chiropractic care, acupuncture and yoga therapy.  All new programs have been well-received, and extremely successful.

To allow our facility the opportunity to further expand services, Manchester VAMC has recently applied for and received a VA New England Healthcare Strategic Objective Funding Award.  The award is in alignment with VA New England Healthcare’s Strategic Objective to provide Excellence in Pain Care.

In addressing this crisis, there is a tremendous amount of work to be done.  Receiving these supplemental funds will support the hiring of additional staff to develop an intensive outpatient pain program. Program development and recruitment of staff will occur over the next fiscal year.

Veterans who need assistance with opioid and/or other substance use disorders can get assistance at the Manchester VA Medical Center.  Manchester VA Medical Center offers 24/7 Urgent Care evaluations for drug detoxification treatment and Naloxone rescue kits are available at no cost to Veterans.
