The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got their first walk-off win of 2017 on Tuesday night, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 3-2 in the second part of a doubleheader.
Both teams were deadlocked after seven innings, the normal limit for regulation in Eastern League doubleheaders.
Portland brought runs across the plate in the second on a Mike Olt double and a fielder’s choice in the seventh that allowed Heiker Meneses to score.
New Hampshire’s pair of runs in regulation came off the bat of Jonathan Davis, who hit his third home run of the year in the third inning.
After New Hampshire retired Portland 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth, Emilio Guerrero started off the bottom of the inning with a single to center field.
Derrick Loveless advanced Guerrero to second with a sacrifice bunt and J.C. Cardenas moved him to third on a single to left.
Following a walk issued to Jonathan Davis, Richard Urena’s 2-1 sacrifice fly to right field was enough to bring Guerrero home, sealing the victory.
The evening’s second game had much less offense than the first, with both teams combining for only nine hits. Cardenas obtained two of those hits, he was the only player on either side with more than one.
Andrew Case (1-0) earned the win as well as a blown save in two innings of work. Luis Ysla (0-3), who came into the game in the bottom of the eighth, solicited the loss.
Both teams play again on Wednesday morning in Manchester at 10:35. Conner Greene (1-3, 3.69 ERA) will face Portland’s Jalen Beeks (5-1, 1.60 ERA).
