MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Fire was dispatched Wednesday at about 10:30 a.m. for a truck on fire at 1440 So. Willow St.
Fire crews were advised the truck was carrying acetylene and oxygen tanks, which are volatile. Engine 3 stretched a line while Engine 9 set up water supply to knock down the fire. Smoke billowed from the fire and could be seen from miles away.
Fire officials shut down traffic to South Willow Street as crews extinguished the fire. Once the fire was knocked down the tanks were safely removed from the truck.
According to Manchester District Fire Chief Hank Martineau, the driver had gotten a flat tire on the highway and drove to the location on South Willow. The high temperatures combined with the flat tire most likely caused the fire, Martineau said.
