MANCHESTER, NH – What a difference a day makes.

Due to a mechanical issue in the filtration system, Hunt Pool will be closed as of June 30 until further notice.  However, Sheehan-Basquil Splash Pad located next-door to Hunt Pool is open daily from 12  to 7:45 p.m.

The city opened Hunt pool on June 28.

According to the city, a critical pipe involved in transferring clean water back to Hunt Pool broke off from the wall of the filtration tank.  The pool is currently inoperable as a result.  The breakage appears to be the result of significant corrosion on both the tank and pipe.

Parks & Rec brought in two fabricating experts this afternoon to do an assessment.  We are waiting to hear back with potential remedies and associated costs.

Hunt Pool was built in 1959.  It has undergone repairs and upgrades over the years, but many of its systems are aging and outdated.

It pains us to close Hunt Pool, but we are fortunate to have just opened a new splash pad immediately adjacent to it at Sheehan-Basquil Park.  The splash pad, featuring water cannons and a giant tipping wheel, is unaffected by the pool closure.  It has been packed during this current heatwave, and we invite everyone to come out and enjoy it.  Hours are noon to 7:45 p.m., every day.

Where to cool off around the city:

Livingston Pool is open 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Dupont Splash Pad is open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sheehan-Basquil Splash Pad is open 12 noon – 7:45 p.m.
Crystal Lake Beach is staffed from 12 noon – 8 p.m.

The city is experiencing mechanical issues at Raco Theodore Pool.  It should be open within the next week, or hopefully sooner.
