MANCHESTER, NH – If you’re still considering your voting options for Presidential Election Day 2016, here’s another one to consider: Green Party presumptive presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein, who will be in Manchester July 16 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Manchester at 4 p.m. to speak on the major issues facing the U.S. and the world.
Stein, a physician who became concerned over the connection between poor environmental conditions and health, ran for president in 2012 and received more than 469,000 votes, which made her the most successful woman presidential candidate in U.S. history, according to her campaign. In 2016, Stein has polled as high as 7 percent in a recent CNN poll and is looking to set more records.
She has also run twice for Massachusetts governor.
Her progressive platform is known as the Green New Deal, which is focused on economic injustice and climate change by “putting people before profits and standing up to the 1 percent.” She is calling for an emergency transition to 100 percent wind, water and sun energy by the year 2030 (see more on the Green New Deal below via YouTube).
Stein was critical of Bernie Sanders’ endorsement of Hillary Clinton earlier this week, according to a story in Politico, which quoted the following Tweet sent by Stein just before Sanders appeared alongside Clinton at Portsmouth High School:
“If you don’t want to vote for a warmonger or racist billionaire, there are more options. The political revolution will keep going.” – Jill Stein, via Twitter.
Sanders’ endorsement of Clinton seems to be working in Stein’s favor, as her campaign has reported receiving more than $80,000 in contributions, over half of which comes from first-time donors, and half of which comes in the form of contributions under $50.
Right now Stein is on the ballot in 23 states, and is working to get on the ballot here in New Hampshire, where she is about half-way to the goal of 3,000 verified petitions, needed by Aug. 10. [Click here for more on Stein’s efforts in NH].
Doors for the event Saturday open at 3 p.m. and will take place in the Sanctuary at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Manchester, 669 Union St. All are welcome and no tickets are required.
