Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 3.14.08 PMMANCHESTER, NH – The 17th annual WZID Christmas is for Kids Radiothon, presented by FairPoint Communications, broadcasts LIVE from WZID on Thursday and Friday, December 3 and 4, from 8:00am to 6:00pm each day.  Organizers hope to reach the $2 million milestone this year, which means they need to raise $200,000.

The radiothon raises funds to benefit children and families served by Child and Family Services of NH.  Proceeds will be used in two ways:  1.) To fulfill holiday wishes of local children in need; and, 2.) to support critical services to children and families, and thereby solve social problems.

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 3.20.03 PMThe children and youth who will be helped include those who have suffered from abuse or neglect, live in or near poverty, are in foster care, are homeless, struggle with emotional or developmental concerns or with trauma, loss or family hardship.

In addition to providing gifts under the tree, the event will support services such as in-home visits for families under stress, positive recreational experiences for at-risk youth, parent education and support groups, and will subsidize equipment and transportation for children with developmental  or chronic health concerns, care packs to children transitioning through foster care, and provide two weeks of summer camp for children from low income families including children of incarcerated parents.

During the two day broadcast, 95.7 WZID will invite listeners to call into a dedicated phone line, 603-626-1106, to make monetary donations.  Multiple incentives will be available to donors at various gift levels.  Donations may also be made online, www.cfsnh.org, in any amount.  As well, donors may give via cell by texting ANGEL to 50555, and a $10 donation will be added to donor’s next cell phone bill.

This year’s event will also include a “buy-it-now” auction that will feature an array of unique experiences and high-demand items.   Auction can be viewed on www.wzid.com.

Below are some ways local businesses and organizations have supported the effort in the past:

  • A local hair salon donated $5 off each haircut on the days of our event
  • A restaurant designated 50 percent of its dessert sales during days of event
  • A school collected money during its basketball games
  • A large corporation had “jeans” Fridays, during which employees got to wear jeans on Fridays if they donated $5 into the radiothon donation pot

As is tradition, New Hampshire’s business, community and political leaders, and CFS clients and staff, will play a part in the fund-raising initiative, and will share their stories and messages of hope on the air.
