MANCHESTER, NH— Anthony Maldonado, 18, of Manchester, was arrested May 19 in connection with an assault on a Manchester Police Officer following a foot chase.
At approximately 4:50 p.m. on Thursday Manchester Police responded to the area of Hospital and Chase avenues in reference to reports of a suspicious person looking into parked vehicles.
An officer located a man walking in the area of Massabesic Street matching the description of the reported suspicious subject, later identified as Maldonado. The officer approached Maldonado and asked if he could speak with him. Maldonado turned around and fled the area on foot. The officer chased after 2.
When they reached the area of Old Falls Road and Massabesic Street, Maldonado turned and allegedly punched the officer and then continued to flee on foot. After a brief second foot pursuit, additional officers assisted in attempting to place Maldonado in custody. While trying to handcuff him, Maldonado pulled away and started kicking and punching officers.
Officers used a Taser to gain control of Maldonado, and to place him into custody. He was eventually handcuffed but he continued to be combative and uncooperative during the booking process and was transported to Valley Street Jail, according to police.
He was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest/detention. One officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
