MANCHESTER, NH – On May 28 people from throughout the greater Manchester community will gather to listen, learn and be inspired by ideas worth spreading at #TEDxAmoskeagMillyardWomen2015.

This daylong event – the first TEDxWomen event in NH – is being held in collaboration – and in tandem – with the international TED Women Conference in Monterey, Calif. The theme of the day is MOMENTUM.

Locally, organizers of the Manchester event – to be held at Southern New Hampshire University’s Walker Auditorium – have invited the public to help build momentum for this special event through a social media initiative involving a big red wooden X.

It's hip to be X.
It’s hip to be X.

So what’s with the X? In TED speak, the x denotes local. When you see TEDx, it means it’s an official TED event in a specific community, which is listed after the x. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to ideas worth spreading. It began as a conference in California back in 1984 and has grown to support world-changing ideas with global initiatives such as TED Women.

The X, built by Nashua finish carpenter David Cotter and his daughter, Kerry, a member of the TEDxAMWomen15 organizing team, made its debut at SNHU’s Millyard offices across from WMUR. It’s journeyed to Cotton, to several spots on Elm Street, at Brook Plaza in Hudson, the Derryfield and Dyn. On Friday, it travels to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and will be seen throughout the area over the coming week.

The public has been encouraged to take photos with the X, and help keep the momentum going by posting their photos across social media platforms using #Momentum and #TEDxAMWomen15. Three tickets to the May 28 event will be awarded to those who tell about a woman of inspiration and why, using those same hashtags.
