MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police Department is hiring, and in preparation for the next exam (Aug. 6) they are holding a free seminar to outline the requirements for a career in law enforcement, and what to expect on the exam.

The following is the full current job listings for a certified police officer and entry-level police officer in the city of Manchester:

Certified Police Officer job posting

Starting Salary: $940 – 1,027.20 per week*  plus extensive benefits package, 40 hours per week, 4 and 2 schedule (4 days on; 2 days off)

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

EXPERIENCE: Must be presently employed as a full-time certified Police Officer or have been employed as a full-time Certified Police Officer within the last 12 months.

PROCEDURES: Complete and submit employment application to the Human Resources Department along with copies of supporting documents listed below:
(1) Copy of Diploma or GED certificate,
(2) Copy of Police Officer certification,
(3) Copy of birth certificate/U.S. Passport and copy of valid driver’s license.

APPEARANCE: The Manchester Police Department does allow tattoos; however, no inappropriate or offensive tattoos are permitted and at no point are tattoos allowed on the hands, face, neck or head. Inappropriate or offensive tattoos will be determined by the Chief of Police or his designee.

If you satisfy these requirements, you will receive an invitation to participate in a physical agility test. The Manchester Police Department uses the guidelines set by the Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research. All applicants will be given a fitness assessment and must fall into the 35th percentile or better in all categories. The categories include a bench press, sit-ups, push-ups and a one and one half-mile run. The Manchester Police Department will then conduct a background investigation. Candidates will be considered for vacancies, as they occur.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Although submission of a resume is optional, candidates must complete a City of Manchester Employment Application available at the City of Manchester websites or in person at the Human Resources Dept., City Hall Annex.

Entry-level police officer job requirements

Starting Pay: $48,880/year – plus comprehensive benefits package
(Note: Starting Pay is $50,356.80/year for Officers who can also converse in Spanish, Portuguese, Bosnian, Russian or Arabic)
40 hours per week, 4 and 2 schedule (4 days on; 2 days off)

THE JOB: Patrols an assigned area in the enforcement of law and order. Performs traffic duties, investigations and crime prevention and detection assignments.

AGE: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the date of the written test.

PHYSICAL: Applicants must be able to complete essential job functions of Police Officer, safely and effectively. Must meet vision standards – distant vision at least 20/30, corrected; near vision at least 20/40 in each eye corrected with contact lenses or spectacles, and 20/20 uncorrected. Successful long-term soft contact lens wearers are not subject to the uncorrected criterion. This waiver is extended to users of hard lenses if successful use has been documented. Normal color and depth perception essential. Any condition which interferes with acuity or puts the eyes at risk shall result in disqualification or deferment.

BACKGROUND/ APPEARANCE: Applicants must not have any record of convictions other than minor offenses.

CITIZENSHIP: US Citizenship is required.

EXAMINATIONS: The Examination consists of a written test, physical agility test, and oral interview. Background investigation, including polygraph, will be conducted on candidates who are successful at each stage of the examination series. Offer of hire contingent upon passing a post-offer fitness for duty psychological and medical screening examination. The written and physical agility exams will be administered at the NH Police Academy (New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Council) in Concord on Saturday, August 6, 2016; and the Oral Board is expected to be administered at the Manchester Police Department on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 and possibly Thursday, August 11, 2016 depending on the number of successful candidates. These dates are tentative and may be changed based on the number of applicants. Applicants will be notified by mail of any change in dates, therefore it is important to provide a correct and complete mailing address as well as a valid email address and to notify Human Resources of any address change.

MEN and WOMEN who meet the qualification may compete in the examination process.
Applications must be received at the Human Resources Department by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016. There is a $25 application fee (check or money order ONLY) which must be submitted along with the application, payable to the “City of Manchester Human Resources Department.” The application fee is NON REFUNDABLE. IN ADDITION, a copy of your Birth Certificate, High School Diploma and Driver’s License must be included with your application.
