MANCHESTER, NH – Police and fire officials are investigating a car fire on Brook Street early Thursday morning.

Fire crews were dispatched at 5:27 a.m. on Aug. 31 for a reported car fire outside of 58/60 Brook Street. According to Manchester Police Lt. Brian O’Keefe,  the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Manchester Fire Inspector Paul King is also working on the case, according to Manchester Fire officials. Arson has not been ruled out.

In the aftermath, the asphalt where the car was parked was left singed and some debris was still visible early Thursday morning. A white Toyota Corolla parked in front of the burning vehicle remains parked at the scene, with heavy fire damage to its rear end – tail lights melted, license plate obliterated – and yellow crime tape blocking off part of the sidewalk.

The air was still heavy with the odor of gasoline and fire a few hours later. A single singed leaf floated to the ground from tree branches, also damaged in the blaze. A nextdoor neighbor leaving for work around 9:30 a.m. said she didn’t know anything about the incident.

We’ll update the story as soon as more information is available.
