MANCHESTER, NHStudio 550 is hosting its 2nd Annual Embellished Envelope Art Exhibition, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”  This is a show of envelopes embellished by artists with paint, collage, drawings, calligraphy, etc. that can be purchased and mailed.

Members of the community and people of all backgrounds and ages are encouraged to apply. There is no application fee and all submissions will be accepted as long as the work has appropriate subject matter and displays good craftsmanship. Makers may submit as many embellished envelopes as they would like. Envelopes may be simple, clever, inspiring, surprising, ornate, whimsical, funny, beautiful or whatever else the maker is drawn to create.

Studio 550 hopes this exhibit will encourage people to mail more handwritten letters and rethink how we stay connected. Does an email carry the same meaning as a letter? Since it is so easy to keep track of each other via social media, are we less likely to actually reach out and connect?  For the artists, Studio 550 hopes it can be another excuse to make some art and play with new ideas.

The reception is free to attend and will be held January 27, 2017 from 5:30-7 p.m..  Small postcards and postage will be available at the reception for visitors to decorate and design their own art to mail to a loved one.

The deadline for submissions is the day before the show opens, January 26th by 9 p.m.. The exhibit will be up January 27, 2017- February 28, 2017.

For the application and information about other upcoming Calls for Entries at Studio 550, visit 550arts.com/opportunities, call 603.232.5597 or stop in at 550 Elm Street in Manchester, NH.

Immediately following the reception, there will be a Story Slam Night from 7-9 p.m., sponsored by the Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund. It will be an evening of stories from patients, staff and volunteers about why access to health care matters. Driven to action due to claims by the new administrations in Washington, D.C., and Concord, NH, these true stories are to show that the progress made towards affordable access to health care impacts real people.

There is a $5 suggested donation at the door for the Story Slam Night.
