The Erie SeaWolves hit two home runs in the first part of their Wednesday doubleheader against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. A third home run, this time from Christin Stewart, gave Erie their second win of the day.
Stewart’s first pitch grand slam in the sixth would prove to be the difference in Erie’s 5-1 victory. It would be a cruel rebuttal to Matt Dean’s RBI double a half inning earlier that tied up the contest.
Losing pitcher Connor Greene (2-5) would be responsible for three of the four runs coming off Stewart’s blast, but he did not earn Erie’s first run of the game, which came thanks to an error by Gunnar Heidt in the first inning.
Both teams combined for only nine hits in the seven-inning showdown, with winning pitcher Waldis Joaquin (2-2) allowing just two of them, one being Dean’s double.
The only player on either side with more than one hit was Erie’s Harold Castro, who went 2-for-4 on the day.
Erie will complete their only trip to Manchester this year with a Thursday evening matchup against the Fisher Cats. Francisco Rios (3-4, 3.93 ERA) takes the mound for New Hampshire against Erie’s Artie Lewicki (3-2, 4.03 ERA).
