State Police cruiser damaged in Oct. 24 accident.

MANCHESTER, NH – On Monday, October 24, 2016 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Trooper First Class Kieran Fagan responded to a multi-vehicle accident northbound on Interstate 293 just south of Exit 4 in Manchester. The accident was in the immediate area where there is a backup of northbound traffic due to the ongoing construction for Exits 4 & 5. As Trooper Fagan was out of his cruiser investigating the initial accident in the travel breakdown lane of I 293 he heard tires screeching behind him. As he directed his attention to oncoming traffic he observed a box truck strike the rear of his cruiser and subsequently strike three other vehicles prior to coming to a stop in the breakdown lane.

The box truck, which was registered to AJ Trucking out of Lawrence, Mass., was towed from the scene and subsequently inspected by Troopers from our Commercial Enforcement Unit (Troop G). The driver was cited for Negligent Driving and Motorists Duties when Approaching Highway Emergencies (Move Over Law). Both the truck and the driver were placed out-of-service.

Three of the vehicles, including the State Police Cruiser, were towed from the scene. TFC Fagan was uninjured in the collision.

The New Hampshire State Police would like to continue to promote the “Move Over Law” and ask motorists to drive with care. At this time there are a number of roadway construction sites on our highways where construction workers, personnel from the Department of Transportation and Troopers from the NH State Police are working daily and nightly. These areas are identified by required signage and give our citizens plenty of notice. Please drive with caution.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Trooper First Class Bryan Plamondon at New Hampshire State Police – Headquarters at 603-223-4381.
