EXETER, NH – Central High School’s girls soccer team fought their way through a grueling, scoreless game to win in double overtime on penalty kicks, becoming 2017 state champions in a rematch with Bedford on Nov. 5.  And the victory was the sweetest kind: Their one and only loss of the season was a 2-1 heartbreaker to Bedford, during their first game.

We ran into the team during a post-game celebration Sunday night at Cactus Jack’s on Sunday night and talked to team captain Heather Jennato, a senior, who said the NHIAA Division 1 championship felt “really good,” and was a true team effort.

“I’ve waiting four years for this and now to finally get it, it’s unreal,” Jennato said.

She also gave credit where it was due – sophomore goalie Jessica Lewis quite literally pulled out all the stops against the Bulldogs.

It’s the first championship for Central’s girls soccer since 2008, and came down to the penalty kick shoot-out, after both teams remained scoreless during regulation play.

Congratulations to the entire team!
