MANCHESTER, NH — Still no resolution on Hartshorn Way, where a 41-year-old man described as “despondent” by police, has been holed up inside his condo.
As of 10:40 p.m. several residents of the quiet East Side neighborhood were still unable to return home, said Lt. Brian O’Keefe.
“We are continuing to work on a peaceful resolution with the 41-year-old resident of Hartshorn Way, but until such time, no traffic is allowed on Holt Avenue between Eastgate Way and Eastwood Way, to include Hartshorn Way,” O’Keefe said in a statement issued nine hours after it began.
Officers responded to Hartshorn Way at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 for a despondent man who made suicidal threats. Initial reports indicate the man is armed with several guns, so members of the Manchester Police SWAT Team responded to the area.
Members of the Manchester Police SWAT team evacuated at least two nearby residences and have asked additional residents in the immediate neighborhood to shelter in place until the incident is resolved. Some of the neighbors in the condominium complex were eventually escorted from the area while others chose to remain at home.
At least one of the evacuated residents were taken to an area hotel until the situation is resolved.
Manchester SWAT personnel, along with members of the New Hampshire State Police, remain on scene.
The incident on Hartshorn Way has closed a portion of Holt Avenue, between Eastgate Way and Eastwood Way, and East Industrial Avenue to Eastern Avenue. Residents who reside on Eastgate Way can ONLY access their home from Candia Road. Please take Waverly Road to Holt Avenue and turn into the access road located on the back side of Eastern Avenue. No one is allowed to enter or exit Eastern Avenue from Holt Avenue until the situation is resolved.
