The fall is slowly fading and winter sports are starting up. It’s Nov. 3, 2019. Here’s what’s been going on in Southern New Hampshire University sports.
Field Hockey
The ninth-ranked field hockey team closed out their regular season with a 2-0 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
SNHU’s first goal came from freshman Lisa Hagel (Driehuis, The Netherlands) and their second goal came from senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands).
Franklin Pierce did not have a shot on goal and only two penalty corners compared to the Penmen’s 11.
SNHU ends the regular season with a 15-3 record and a 12-2 record in the Northeast-10. Coming into this year, the previous high water mark was 10 wins and eight conference wins, respectively.
The first-ever home playoff game in SNHU history will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5 (4 p.m.) as the Penmen host Bentley in the Northeast-10 Field Hockey Championship Quarterfinals.
Men’s Hockey
The Penmen evened their record at 1-1 thanks to a 3-2 win over Bryn Athyn on Saturday.
All three Penmen goals came outside of 5-on-5 play, with sophomore Jake Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) getting a power play goal and a shorthanded goal, following on the earlier power play goal from sophomore Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.)
The Penmen don’t return home until the Manchester PAL Cup at the end of the month. Coming up next is their first Northeast-10 game against Franklin Pierce on Friday, Nov. 8 (7 p.m.)
Women’s Volleyball
Saint Rose managed to win one set, but the Penmen won the other three to earn victory on Saturday.
Although Saint Rose actually outhit SNHU, the Penmen had double-digit kill performances from senior Baylee Lippincott (Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman Juliana Pacini (Sao Paolo, Brazil), with Pacini also contributing three service aces.
Senior Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) also added six kills and 19 assists.
Southern New Hampshire University (13-9, 5-3 Northeast-10) return on Friday, Nov. 8 (7 p.m.) against Pace University.
Men’s Soccer
The Penmen earned their third shutout of the year with a 4-0 win over Southern Connecticut.
Graduate student Alex Satrustegui (San Sebastian, Spain) opened up scoring, with the Penmen also getting tallies from sophomore Simon Skogestad (Buskerud, Norway), junior Nadjib Chibout (Lyon, France) and junior Jannik Mohr (Koblenz, Germany).
Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Quinn (Manchester, N.H.) stopped four shots and redshirt-sophomore Jackson Rivers (Epping, N.H.) added two stops for the Penmen.
The Penmen are now unbeaten in their last eight contests, winning six and drawing two over that stretch. They’re also now 10-1-2 in their last 13 contests against Southern Connecticut.
SNHU (8-4-3, 6-3-2 Northeast-10) wraps up their regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (1:30 p.m.) against Stonehill College.
