Southern New Hampshire University almost suffered an 0-3 pre-Thanksgiving weekend, a fate narrowly avoided thanks to a convincing 89-72 victory by the women’s basketball team over Nyack on Saturday.

Senior Brianna Camara’s season-high 20 points led the way for the Penmen as they got out to an early 9-0 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

Molly Terry and Kylie Lorenzen each chipped in 17 points to help bring the Penmen up to 4-0 on the year while Nyack’s Ellie Nittinger led all scorers with 21 points.

On the men’s side, the Penmen dropped their first game of the season with an 80-74 loss to 22nd ranked Florida Southern.

SNHU senior Daquise Andrews led all scorers with 19 points, but the Penmen gave up 21 points off turnovers dashed any hopes of victory in what was a see-saw contest.

Andrews is now 38th all-time highest scorer in Penmen history with 1,180 points, passing Fred Petty (1972-’74) and Matt Ripaldi (1992-’96).

Florida Southern was led by Jack Rauch’s 18 points on the night, including 11 during a 24-7 rally that broke the game open early in the second half.

On the ice, the Penmen split their weekend series with Assumption, falling 5-4 in Worcester.

The Greyhounds answered SNHU’s early dominance with five unanswered goals, bringing their record to 7-2-0 on the year.

Nine different skaters scored the contest’s goals, with SNHU’s Chris Moquin and Assumption’s Christopher Stalmok contributing power play goals.

The men’s hockey team returns home to host UMass Boston on the first day of the Manchester PAL/Stovepipe Tournament with the men’s and women’s basketball teams travelling to Merrimack College for a doubleheader on Tuesday night.
