MANCHESTER, NH – Rejoice! The Palace Theatre kicks off its Citizens Bank 2016-2017 Performing Arts Series with the Broadway musical comedy Sister Act, on stage Sept. 9 – October 1. This hilarious and joyful musical, based on the hit Whoopi Goldberg film with book by Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning duo Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, follows Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look  – a convent!

Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. This smash hit was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and features original music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar Award winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Broadway’s Glen Slater. The New York Post called Sister Act “ridiculously fun,” and audiences around the world have jumped to their feet in total agreement.

The Palace Theatre is thrilled to welcome Broadway’s Antoinette Comer in the role of Deloris Van Cartier. Antoinette comes to the Palace from the National Tour Mamma Mia! and her regional credits include Dreamgirls and A Bronx Tale.

George Piehl plays Monsignor O'Hara.

George F. Piehl, a local favorite and NH Theatre award-winner joins the cast as Monsignor O’Hara. One of the joys of a show like Sister Act is that it’s relatively new to the live theater stage.

“It only opened on Broadway three or four years ago, so in that way, it’s like having Broadway in our backyard,” said Piehl.

Although the stage version of the show closely follows the movie version plot, the audience can expect a lot more music, says Piehl – the kind of music that makes you want to get up and move.

“This show is just front to back filled with incredible music, and it’s a lot of fun. A lot of the music has that ’60s flavor that was part of the original movie. It’s music that gets you going – at least, it does me – and it’s sure to get the audience moving,” says Piehl.

The show is a sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music, Sister Act is not a show you want to miss. Come experience fabulous family feel-good show that’s bee seen by more than 6 million people worldwide.

Sister Act at the Palace Theatre runs from September 9 to October 1 with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m.Tickets range in price from $25-$45.
