Shaun L. Scanlon, 75: Loved music, classic cars; will be missed by wife, kids, grandkids and Goji, his dog

MANCHESTER, NH – Shaun L. Scanlon, 75, of Manchester, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 in the Intensive Care Unit at Catholic Medical Center.

He was born in Winchester, MA, September 17, 1941, the son of Vincent and Dorothy (Tierney) Scanlon, and had been a resident of Manchester since 1970. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Shaun was a parishioner of St. Pius Church and a member of the Order of the Hibernians. He was an ardent supporter of the Friends of Bill W. donating his time and energy reaching out to those in need of a listening ear.

Shaun was passionate about antique cars and enjoyed going to auto flea markets with his son Kevin and son-in-law, Dan. In 1997 Shaun was awarded the Best of Show for his 1962 Corvette at an exhibition sponsored by Dobles Chevrolet in Manchester. During the warm summer months Shaun and his wife would often take long rides in their beautiful Corvette.

Shaun also enjoyed traveling, reading, and listening to music of the 1950s. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and enjoyed daily walks with his dog Goji. He felt at one with nature, experienced God’s beauty in the great outdoors and loved animals.

IN HIS LIFE: Shaun leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years, Jeanine (Sevigny) Scanlon, of Manchester; a son, Kevin Scanlon and his wife, Jeshua, of North Carolina; a daughter, Kerry Soucy and her husband, Daniel, of Manchester; three grandchildren, Alyssa Soucy, Joshua Soucy and Kayden Scanlon, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Sheila Scanlon of Rio Rancho, NM and Elizabeth Scanlon of San Jose, California.

SERVICES: A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be held to honor and celebrate Shaun’s life on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 575 Candia Road, in Manchester. Committal prayers with military honors will follow at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, in Boscawen.

At this time the family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Catholic Medical Center for the exceptional care provided to Shaun as well as their compassion towards those who were with him.
