CONCORD, NH  – A pair of stand-up shows performed by Seth Meyers at the Capitol Center for the Arts on Saturday, Feb. 10, netted two New Hampshire nonprofits $200,000 to help support child victims of abuse and neglect.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of New Hampshire, and the Granite State Children’s Alliance, New Hampshire’s Network of Child Advocacy Centers, will split the proceeds from the night. Ticket sales to the two sold-out shows and an auction for two pairs of tickets to NBC’s “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” which went for $5,000 each, contributed to the evening’s proceeds. Meyers conducted the auction himself at the end of the second show at the Capitol Center.

Meyers, who grew up in Bedford and attended Manchester West High School, returned home for the one-night engagement telling New Hampshire media outlets before the show that he was prompted by his father Larry Meyers to consider coming home to do a benefit, and that organizations like CASA and the GSCA who support victimized children in the state he called home for much of his life “made sense.”

“Just drawing attention to the great work they do is one of the goals for tonight,” Meyers said in an interview with New Hampshire Chronicle.

Meyers’ pair of 70-minute shows had the crowds roaring as he took on subjects of growing up in New Hampshire versus Manhattan, the joys and challenges of parenting, politics and the ongoing sexual misconduct allegations amongst those in Hollywood and the political arena.

“Seth Meyers, with a powerful assist from his parents, Bedford residents Larry and Hilary Meyers, spent significant time and effort to do something unbelievably positive for the kids of New Hampshire,” CASA Board Chairman David Eby said. “We are so grateful for his friendship and for his commitment to give back to the New Hampshire community.”

Meyers is best-known for his years on Saturday Night Live, where he served as head writer for nine seasons and “Weekend Update” anchor for eight seasons. He won an Emmy in 2011 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for host Justin Timberlake’s musical monologue. Meyers also garnered 14 additional Emmy nominations for his work as a writer in television. He lives in New York City.

CASA of New Hampshire recruits, trains and supervises volunteers from around the state to serve as volunteer advocates for children in the family court system. Their primary job is to bring to the attention of the court what is in the best interest of these children and youth, many of whom end up in our state foster care system as a result of the abuse or neglect suffered at the hand of their parents or primary caregivers. The Granite State Children’s Alliance represents the network of Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) in NH and operates four CAC locations in Manchester, Nashua, Laconia and Keene. Child Advocacy Centers are community partnerships coordinating a collaborative systemic response to child abuse investigations and subsequent healing supports for child victims and their families. CACs are child/family friendly, trauma informed, victim centered, neutral settings for joint investigations and forensic interviews of child victims of crime involving sexual abuse, felony level physical abuse, and child witnesses to violence such as a homicide or a serious domestic assault.
